Tradespeople have a huge impact on the health of our planet. Incorporating environmentalism into everyday work life is a difficult and heroic choice. Those who make this bold choice work everyday to solve climate change and eliminate pollution.
We challenge PCTI School of Construction Technology and School of Culinary Arts seniors to research climate friendly techniques and technologies being used today, or to dream up innovations yet to be, and submit a short essay on what they've learned.
We choose recipients based on the best essays however those with financial need are considered first. We also review teacher recommendations, extra-curriculars/work, and require a minimum 2.5 GPA.
At the annual Senior Award Night each June, recipients are provided a grant of $1,500 to pay for practical items for those going directly to work or tuition.
Funds are donated by David & Janine Harris, proud parents of a 2024 PCTI alumni. Building a LEED certified home and incorporating eco-friendly projects at work taught us that trades have the ability to support business without harming the environment. We hope to:
1) Inspire students to become "working environmentalists" who understand this path will make them a more successful tradesperson.
2) Eliminate the stigma associated with the trades by recognizing & honoring senior SOCT and SOCA grads.
3) Provide funds to buy practical items needed to continue in their chosen trade.
Thank you to the exceptional teachers and staff at PCTI for the important work that you do. The positive environment you create is recognized and appreciated. Thank you PTSO for assisting in the application and awarding process.
